Cultural Italy Blog: Art, Coffee & Love

Milan

DAY TRIP

Milan is one of the top 3 fashion cities in the world, but there is much more to this hip, urban metropolis – it is also home to an incredible patrimony of art and culture which includes Leonardo DaVinci’s greatest masterpiece: the Last Supper. Other artists Michelangelo, the composer Verdi, the great tenor Enrico Caruso, and designer Giorgio Armani all lived and worked here; Toscanini conducted regularly at the world famous opera house La Scala; Napoleon was crowned (actually, he crowned himself) inside the Duomo. If you visit it by night it is quite an experience to see this enormous white marble cathedral in full splendor.

During the day do not miss the Gallery Vittorio Emanuele II, the salotto or “Lounge” of Milan, named after the Italian king Vittorio Emanuele II.

It’s a masterpiece of architecture and a vibrant place where the Milanese use to meet in its elegant cafés for coffee or lunch and shop in its elegant stores.
