Catania: Yummy Sicily!
Catania: yummy Sicily!
Beautiful, unique, a little chaotic, but very delicious, Catania has it all: the volcano, the sea, beautiful architecture and yummy food. Hot dry climate makes this Sicilian city a perfect place for a summer vocation. And trust me, your stomach will thank you too for the trip.
Sicilian “arancini”, deep fried rice balls, are something you have to try if you travel to Catania. Resembling oranges (or “arance” in Italian), they are usually filled with meat and tomato sauce or mozzarella cheese and prosciutto. Fitting perfectly in your hand it is a very simple yet narcotic food you will always want to eat. However, you can have as many “arancini” as you want - forget about real oranges.
“Signora! We are out of season” said a very surprised waiter when I asked for a glass of a fresh-squeezed juice one week ago. Indeed, why drinking juice if there is a great variety of unique Sicilian wines? Zibibbo, Nero d'Avola, Inzolia, Syrah just to mention some… And of course fresh sea food!
But watch out! Catanesi eat really late. Until the sun is still high they all enjoy their sand beaches and crystalline waters, all with the dominant Mount Etna as a dramatic and almost unbelievable background.
