Tutta Colpa Della Luna: Teatro Sociale Di Como’s Moon Inspired Season

INSPIRED BY THE MOON

Tutta colpa della luna: Teatro Sociale Di Como’s Moon inspired season

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, Como’s theatre Teatro Sociale announces a whole season with the moon as its inspiration. Taking history’s ‘small step for man, a big step for humanity’ as inspiration, the season explores uncharted territory, with historical relevance and glimpses into the mysterious. Here are a few of the choices Teatro Sociale creates for the lunar ‘culturescape’ on Como this year:

A nocturnal archeopoetic walk What are you doing Moon in Heaven, weaves poetry and stories through the origins of civilization through archeological sites in nearby Spina Verde Park. For bibliophiles, Maurizio de Giovanni and the Moon brings the Award-winning Italian author to read passages from his moon-inspired works on October 2nd. In a dream-like vision with lights, lasers and ballet performers from Daniele Cipriani Entertainment Corps de Ballet, comes Shine! Pink Floyd Moon on November 23 from the legendary band’s moon inspired album.

Franco Zeffirelli’s historical staging of Aida, taken up by Stefano Trespidi, and conducted by Francesco Cilluffo gives audiences the opportunity to embrace the famed operatic design. Composed nearby in Moltrasio, Vincenzo Bellini's La Sonnambula (The Sleepwalker) will be conducted by Leonardo Sini and directed by Raúl Vázquez. As astronauts to the moon, exploring into uncharted territory the season hosts for the first time Carolyn Carlson with her Crossroads to Synchronicity dance inspired by Carl Jung. Musical choices include a cirque-inspired Alice in Wonderland.

One of the unique experiences to be had is the theatrical performance of Voglio La Luna (I Want the Moon). An original piece about the relationship between a child and the moon, performed by Fabio Spadoni, an actor with Down syndrome, and puppets in a simple and touching performance for the whole family.

Other events include comedians Geppi Cucciari, Paolo Cevoli, Alessandro Bergonzoni. Teatro Sociale also will host the 71st edition of Concorso per Giovani Cantante Lirici AsLiCo, an important opera singing competition. A celebration of the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth is planned, with many concerts and events. Moon inspired films screen September 22-23 and many other walks, events, meeting with artists, book presentations, themed tours and concerts are planned. While we can’t book our travel to the moon yet, we can appreciate its beauty and the mysteries it still holds.
