Discover the highlights of Genoa – a bustling city with a rich history and Italy’s premier port. You’ll be shown the highlights in the morning and the famous renaissance “Strada Nuova” with its wonderful noble palaces in the afternoon. A tour with your driver guide will introduce you to this town following an itinerary of continually changing panoramic views: the port, the former home of Columbus, the eastern modern area with its rationalist architecture, the private dwellings belonging to the old Genoese aristocracy, and the upper ringroad with its enchanting glimpses on the entire amphitheatre of the town. You will also have the possibility of discovering some hidden treasures including St. George Palace, once the seat of the Captain of the People and the first bank in Italy, San Lorenzo Duomo, the Cathedral of St Lawrence with its ramatic bands of black and white marble adorning the facade, St. Jesus Church, with two paintings by Rubens are on display in the Baroque church of the Gesuit monks, the Ducal Palace Courtyard, where you’ll have the opportunity to see the 16th century courtyard of the elegant Palazzo Ducale, which was once the seat of the Doges of Genoa, and finally the De Ferrari Square, the heart of the modern city with its round shape, wonderful bronze fountain and elegant ecleptic facades.
