2019 Leonardo Da Vinci Trip
DAY 1: ARRIVE VENICE
Upon arrival at Venice airport, meet your private driver for transfer to your hotel accommodation. After check in, enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to start exploring Venice on your own. Overnight.
DAY 2: VENICE
Breakfast at your hotel. Your guide will escort you for a walk on the many bridges and small streets, suggestive canals and elegant palaces. The tour will include visits to Saint Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace, the Bridge of Sighs and the new prisons. You will observe the Byzantine heritage of the city in the dazzling gold mosaics of Saint Mark's Basilica; admire the exquisite pink and white marbles of the Doge's Palace, and its beautiful courtyard and magnificently decorated chambers; through the famous Bridge of Sighs, you will also reach the state prisons. In the afternoon, enjoy a private tour of “Gallerie dell’Accademia” with the special Leonardo exhibition. Together with the famous Vitruvian Man, here you will have the opportunity to admire 25 autographed sheets by Leonardo to which will be added works coming from New York and England. It will be an interesting itinerary through Leonardo’s studies on the human body. Overnight.
DAY 3: MILAN
Breakfast at your hotel. Private transfer to Venice Train Station. Morning departure by high-speed train to Milan. Arrival and check in at your hotel. Visit the Duomo, the symbol of Milan, with its golden Madonnina. It is one of the most famous and complex Gothic constructions of the world. Inside, the remains of the ancient Basilica are to be seen. Continue through the history of music: most of Italy's greatest opera artists, as Giuseppe Verdi and Arturo Toscanini, have appeared at La Scala during the past 200 years and it’s still considered to be one of the main opera and ballet theatres in the world. After, take a walk through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the world's oldest shopping malls. Overnight.
DAY 4: MILAN
Breakfast at hotel. You will start by visiting the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the worldwide famous Last Supper by Leonardo. Then, visit La Vigna di Leonardo (Leonardo’s Vineyard) where he grew his grapes for making wine, while he was working on The Last Supper. After lunch, discover The Sforza Castle, one of the main monuments of Milan, where the Sforza family hosted Leonardo da Vinci for about twenty years. Here, you will visit the Sala delle Asse, a beautiful room with a forest painted by Leonardo. Sala delle Asse will reopen after restoration work that began in 2013. The work uncovered new fragments of monochrome decoration by Leonardo's own hand. The restoration included the laser removal of a dulling layer known as scialbo, so visitors will now be able to admire new portions of the drawing that have never been seen before. Your tour will end with a visit of Leonardo’s Codex Atlanticus at Pinacoteca Ambrosiana. Overnight.
DAY 5: TURIN
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning departure by high-speed train to Turin. Arrival and check in at your hotel. Rest of the day at your leisure to start exploring Turin on your own. Overnight.
DAY 6: TURIN
Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy a pleasant stroll in the historical center of Turin. You will start with Piazza del Castello, heart of the city, and its beautiful Palazzo Madama, San Lorenzo’s Church and Regio Theater. Don't miss the beautiful Duomo and the archeological Roman site with the Palatine door. In the afternoon, visit the temporary Leonardo exhibition at Palazzo Cavour. Overnight.
DAY 7: TURIN
Breakfast at the hotel. Palazzo Reale was the official residence of the House of Savoy. It’s a great example of Baroque style, with beautiful rooms enriched with luxurious furniture and precious decorations. Here,you can admire a rich collection of paintings, clocks, and porcelain. Inside the Musei Reali, there is the special exhibition “Leonardo Da Vinci: drawing the future” with over fifty works, illustrating Leonardo da Vinci’s studies in art and science, in the form of drawings. The visitor is taken through the collection of autograph works by Leonardo now in the Royal Library of Turin, which includes thirteen drawings purchased by King Charles Albert in 1840 and the famous Codex on the Flight of Birds, donated by Theodor Sabachnikov to King Humbert I in 1893. Overnight.
DAY 8: FLORENCE
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning departure by high-speed train to Florence. Arrival and check in at your hotel. You will stroll along the timeless streets, going from the Ponte Vecchio Bridge to Piazza della Signoria. Rub the nose of the legendary boar, “il Porcellino,” to ensure a return to Florence, and visit Piazza della Repubblica, once the Ancient Forum, now a popular meeting place. You will gaze at the Baptistery Doors by Ghiberti and admire from the outside the Duomo, the astounding Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, from where Brunelleschi’s magnificent dome dominates the skyline. Visit the Accademia Gallery and come face to face with Michelangelo’s 17 foot marble masterpiece, the David. Evening at leisure. Overnight.
DAY 9: FLORENCE
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, visit the Bargello Museum and Palazzo Strozzi with the special exhibition “Verrocchio, Master of Leonardo” that is one of the flagship events in the program of celebrations marking the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s death and is the first retrospective ever devoted to Verrocchio, while also exploring the early years of Leonardo di Vinci’s career. After lunch, visit the Uffizi Gallery which houses one of the greatest art collections in the entire world. Resting on the shores of the Arno River, this museum has works from Giotto, Raphael, Michelangelo, Botticelli and Leonardo. You will finish the tour at the Palazzo Vecchio where the special exhibition “Leonardo and Florence” takes place, highlighting works by Leonardo in Florence. Overnight.
DAY 10: FLORENCE
Breakfast at the hotel. Your private driver will pick you up at your accommodation in Florence and guide you to the small village of Vinci. Situated in the hills of Montalbano, Vinci is worldwide known for being the birthplace of the greatest genius of the Italian Renaissance. The town offers plenty of things to see and many of them are related to Leonardo’s life: his house, the museum that collects his models and machines, reconstructed on the basis of Leonardo’s drawings. After a visit to Leonardo’s Museum and a stop to Leonardo’s house, return back to Florence. Overnight.
DAY 11: FLORENCE:
Private Transfer from Florence Hotel to Florence Airport.
