DAY 01: DEPART FROM USA/ARRIVAL IN CATANIA/TAORMINA [dinner]
Arrive in airport in Catania, Sicily and board a bus to a hotel. Enjoy a welcome dinner after a review of the itinerary.
DAY 02: MOUNT ETNA - TAORMINA
Breakfast in the hotel. Explore ancient woods, craters and lava formations surrounding Mount Etna on this day. Afterwards, a light lunch will be served at a local farm down Etna. Then drive to Taormina for a nice visit. Explore Taormina's beautiful beaches and view of the Ionic Sea, as well as the Greek amphitheater. Go to the Palace Corvaia, the Odeaon, the Corso Umberto for a visit of the town. Then we will return to the hotel for dinner on your own.
DAY 03: SYRACUSE
Breakfast in the hotel. Check into Syracuse hotel. Explore Syracuse, the city of Archimedes. Visit the island of Ortigia. Lunch on your own, then free time in Syracuse to explore the city. Back at the hotel, enjoy a "Sicilian Marinated Sushi" dinner.
DAY 04: PORTOPALO - MARZAMEMI
Breakfast in the hotel. Spend the morning in Noto, walking through the historic Baroque center. Visit the last piece of land, the most southern point of Europe, Portopalo di Capo Passero. A fishing village where you will get to know the traditions and history of the local fisherman. It has a Spanish fortress built in early 600, a fishing port and a Tuna fish factory. Then move to Marzamemi, another fishing town famous for its Tuna Fishing. Dinner in Syracuse.
DAY 05: POZZALLO - EMBARK TO MALTA
On the island of Malta, you will check in to your hotel, then have some free time on the island, exploring, the capital of Malta, Valletta. YOu can take an optional boat excursion in the afternoon, viewing both ports Marsamxett and the Grand Harbour. Free time after the cruise, for shopping or exploring the bars and restaurants of Malta. Return to the hotel for a typical Maltese fish dinner.
DAY 06: MDINA
Breakfast in the hotel, then off to the citadel of Mdina, offering an amazing view of the island. We will move on to Rabat, to visit the catacombs of the Dingli Cliffs. Lunch, then a visit to the gorgeous botanical gardens of San Anton, and the church of Mosta. Free time in the village of Ta'Qali for shopping, then dinner at a local tavern in Malta.
DAY 07: RAGUSA
Breakfast in the hotel, then return to Sicily for travel to Ragusa, and hotel check in. You will meet your guide, then off for lunch at a typical farmhouse. You will view the process of making ricotta and cheese, then sample the delicious product. Free time in the afternoon to explore, with dinner at the hotel in the evening.
Breakfast in the hotel. Visit the Baroque towns of Ragusa, Modica and Scicli. Have lunch in Modica at a traditional restaurant, then head to Scicli. Admire the architecture of many churches in Scicli, then return to the hotel for dinner.
DAY 09: PIAZZA ARMERINA - RAGUSA
Breakfast in the hotel, then off to Piazza Armerina. Visit Villa del Casale in the Piazza Armerina, filled with mosaics. Enjoy lunch at a local farmhouse, then admire famous works in the Museum of Aidone. After your museum trip, settle in at the hotel in Ragusa, where you will have dinner in a local restaurant.
DAY 10: AGRIGENTO
Breakfast in the hotel. In Agrigento, See the Valley of the Temples, one of the largest evidences of the Greek presence in Sicily. Then visit the Azienda Agricola Bagliesi, a very well known winery in Sicily, for a demonstration, and light lunch. Then head to Marsala/Mazara del Vallo for hotel check in and a typical dinner at a restaurant in Trapani.
DAY 11: MOTHYA - MAZARA DEL VALLO
Breakfast in the hotel. Take a boat ride to the island of Mothya, where you be astounded by the almost 3,000 year old fortress. Have a picnic lunch, then return to Mazara del Vallo where you will learn about the melting pot of Arab and Sicilian culture and Christian and Muslim faiths at a local coffee shop. Enjoy a dinner of couscous and local traditional foods.
DAY 12: ERICE - SEGESTA
Breakfast in hotel. On to Erice to admire a spectacular view of Trapani, as well as the ruins of the Venus Castle and the Temple. Then visit Segesta and admire the temple, built in 430 BC. You will end your day traveling to Palermo, where you will check into your hotel, and enjoy dinner at the hotel, to include local specialties.
DAY 13: PALERMO
Breakfast in the hotel. Set off for a sightseeing tour of Palermo. See the historic Arab Quarter, botanical gardens, and Baroque churches. Have lunch tasting the local street food sampling morsel's from Africa's Mediterranean coast. Dinner in traditional manner back at the hotel.
DAY 14: MONREALE
Breakfast at the hotel. Excursion to Monreale for a guided visit of the Norman Cathedral. Lunch in the Palermo countryside. In the afternoon, visit the most important locations of some of the famous Italian American movies of all time that were filmed in Palermo, such as the Godfather. Dinner on your own back at the hotel.
DAY 15: DEPARTURE
Breakfast in the hotel. Check out and transfer to the airport to Palermo.
