Best of Venice Tour & the Doge's Palace

Itinerary Details

The Best of Venice walking tour offers some of the best known sights along with some unknown, yet stunning gems. You’ll visit the Rialto Bridge, the world traveler Marco Polo’s house, the lively Campo San Luca and Campo SS Giovanni Paolo. This tour also includes Piazza San Marco and its stunning Basilica with its onion-shaped dome, bearing witness to the eastern and western architecture that in Venice so happily came together.
The highlight of this tour is certainly the majestic Doge’s Palace. Here, Venice’s famous lover and writer, Giacomo Casanova were held prisoner, before he managed to escape. You’ll have a full guided tour of this palace and you’ll admire all the best sights open to the public. Take a look above your head and marvel over the ceilings frescoed by Tintoretto, with Justice presenting herself to the Doge. In these very rooms justice was administered by the “Signore di Venezia”, and it often included harsh punishments, up to the death penalty. You’ll be standing right where the prosecuted would wait to hear their verdict.
The tour will also take you to the spectacular Ponte dei Sospiri, ‘Bridge of Sighs’ – so named for the prisoners that walked on it while on their way to the jails across the canal. As they took their last look towards this magnificent city they couldn’t help but sigh.
