On the occasion of the Expo 2015, La Triennale di Milano has opened a new exhibition entitled “Arts and Foods”. The show curated by Germano Celant in collaboration with the famous Italian architect Italo Rota presents numerous installations, classic designs and contemporary art objects that compares food rituals of the past epochs and the present times. In total more than 7000 sq.m fully packed with hundreds of single items collected from all over the world.
The exposition embraces 164 years of recent history: from 1851 up to 2015. The chosen historical lap is not casual at all. The show, in fact, aims to illustrate the evolution of food habits starting from the first ever organized Universal Exhibition, that took place in London in 1851. And no doubts, as the show strikes, the attitude has changed!
La Triennale’s journey brings visitors from classic and neutral cooking scenes to contemporary, experimental and sometimes critical proposals. Among the most memorable works on display one can find some historical pieces of furniture such as butcher cutting table and classic bar counter dating back to the XIX century. More recent food-related examples showcase the stars of American fast-food culture. This section features, among others, the first McDonald’s mobile kiosk dating back to 40-s and iconic Coca Cola distributors from 50-s. Finally, the exhibition concludes with creative contemporary works interpreting such issues as consumption, politics and gastronomic consciousness. All worth to explore.
Interestingly, numerous bold “Arts and Foods” hints cover all possible communication mediums. They range from painting, sculpture and photography to furniture design, multimedia installations and architecture. Objects, colors, sounds, smells and flavors fill the space making La Triennale experience just unforgettable.
And the good news is that being the official part of Expo-2015 events, La Triennale’s food exhibition is completely free for all Universal Exhibition guests. Just don’t forget to bring your Expo ticket!
