Festa del Cinema di Roma 2022: The new international competition begins.

ART & FILM

Gearing up to compete with notables like the Cannes Film Festival, this year’s Rome Film Fest kicks off its 17th year with a new international competition component. Held at Parco Della Musica Auditorium and other locations throughout Rome, screenings, red carpet events, and digital streamings run through October 23rd. Coinciding with the independent young adult film festival Alice Nella Città, this festival brings a variety of world premiers and screenings from Oscar-winning favorites, new debut filmmakers, and cult-comedy favorites.

Notable entries for the new international competition include Causeway starring Jennifer Lawrence directed by Lila Neugebauer, Lü Guan / The Hotel directed by Wang Xiaoshuai and Houria directed by Mounia Meddour. Other category screenings include The Fabelmans, directed by Steven Spielberg and co-written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner. Recently featured in Forbes 30 under 30 European Media list, Italian director Alice Tomassini will present Kordon, a documentary following the lives of Ukrainian women caught in the conflict of war. The highly anticipated cult comedy Boris 4 will be co-presented by the Rome Film Fest and Alice Nella città with the cast presenting onsite according to the website.

Lifetime achievement awards will be presented to James Ivory, an Oscar®-winning director who will be presenting his new film A Cooler Climate. Panel discussions include Luc Besson, the director of cult films Nikita and Leon, Stephen Frears, (My Beautiful Laundrette), Mario Martone, James Gray, and Paolo Virzì.
