SPECIAL EVENT 2015
The next World Exposition will take place in Milan between May 1st and October 31st, 2015 with other 142 participating countries. The proposed theme is “Feeding the planet, energy for life” and includes everything related to nutrition, from the lack of food in some areas of the world to nutrition education, to issues related to GMOs.
The Expo is an exhibition of non-commercial nature (it is therefore not a fair), organized by the nation that has officially won the contest to host it – Italy in this specific case. The first Expo was held in London in 1851, and its success has prompted other nations to organize similar initiatives, such as the 1889 Paris Expo, remembered for the creation of the Eiffel Tower.
The main principle of this coming exposition is the right to a healthy, safe and sufficient nutrition for everybody in a world increasingly populated (it is estimated that in 2050 the world population will reach 9 billion). New technologies and creative ideas involved in the field of nutrition and food will be presented in Milan; these innovations will hopefully be implemented to face the world nutrition’s challenging issues.
Within the site thematic stands will present the different topics of nutrition and sustainability in different areas: the link between nutrition and infancy, the possibility of a sustainable food, the relationship between food and art, and innovative food production methods.
In the occasion of this international event a total of about two-thousand new jobs will be created, which will further boost the areas of tourism, fashion, design and culture. “Milan, with its expected 20 million visitors to the Expo 2015, of which about 6 to 8 being international, will be the driving force for tourism throughout Italy” – said the mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia. “All this will serve to relaunch the economy and employment, both during the exhibition and in the following years”.
