Plastic made of wood by Mamou-Mani for COS
There is a plastic cloud in the 16th century Palazzo Isimbardi in Milan. But don’t judge too soon. You have never seen a more sustainable plastic. It is digitally designed, 3D printed and, what’s the most important, 100% compostable.
Resembling traditional wickerwork these blocks are 3D printed bricks made of bio-plastic mixed with wood. The Conifera installation realized by the London based studio Mamou-Mani for the fashion brand COS is a cloud like gate. It is a light and fluid structure bridging the courtyard and the garden at the historical Milanese Palazzo Isimbardi.
Each of the 700 Conifera’s bio-bricks are made from fully compostable resources. Colors of the blocks reflect the ratio between wood and bio-plastic. It shifts from brown (wood and bioplastic composite) in the courtyard through to translucent bioplastic in the palazzo’s garden.
