ART & EXHIBITIONS
Permanent show
Vitraria is not just not another museum in Venice. It is an interesting project, a permanent museum dedicated to the glass in all its forms, and different from the classic Murano glass. It is situated in the magnificent Palazzo Barbarigo Nani Mocenigo, in the museum mile, just opposite the church of San Trovaso.
The palace itself is worth a visit; it has been completely renovated and transformed into this permanent exposition of contemporary artwork, currently dedicated to the glass, as one the most ancient and versatile materials, and all its diverse endings: from visual arts to design, to fashion and architecture, and from its traditional uses to the newest technologies.
The works of 40 artists are exposed in different rooms. It is a new concept of museum as an artistic platform as it approaches the world of glass from a holistic perspective. In fact, the works you’ll see here are not just made out of glass but of other materials too; iron, resins and Plexiglas are utilized in areas such as architecture and design, in order to convey ideas close to the qualities of glass, such as transparency, the ability of turning into liquid, and being fragile yet transformable.
The museum is open every day of the year, (not on Christmas and New Years day) from 10 AM to 5 PM.
