Lecce: History, Churches and Burrata

DESTINATIONS

Lecce: a town of history, churches and burrata

“Now that this is ending, I will travel just as much as I can!” Have you already promised yourself a beautiful escape too? Yes, the whole world did. However, while the destination is clear – it’s Italy! The world’s most romantic and beautiful country – where exactly to go is a question with many wonderful answers.

Well, today we will show you Lecce, a destination you just have to know about!

This is a tiny and ancient town in southern Italy founded in the 3rd century BC. It is a magic combination of history, beautiful baroque architecture and traffic-free white stone streets … and cool restaurants, craft breweries, candle light dinners and gastronomic delicacies.

The number of monuments must-see in this city is countless. Definitely not to miss Basilica di Santa Croce, one of the world’s most beautiful facades ever (built in the 17th century); impressive Piazza Duomo surrounded by architectural ensemble of Cattedrale dell’Assunzione della Virgine, the Bell Tower, the Episcopio, and Palazzo del Seminario; Roman Amphitheatre; the Lecce Castle just to mention some.

And what to eat? Burrata cheese, of course!, a real Puglian invention we strongly recommend! It resembles mozzarella but it has a surprise inside: a delicately oozing liquid creamy cheese.

To make Lecce even more perfect, it is located next to the Apulia’s best beaches. Yes, those ones with the white sand on the Italy’s “heel” you’ve always dreamt about.

Start planning your trip to Italy!
