We all very much enjoyed Italy! I’ve written some general comments below. Let me know if you have any questions.
Antico Doge in Venice: Excellent location. The staff were professional and helpful. The accommodations were clean and comfortable, and the breakfast had a nice selection.
Hotel de Mellini in Rome: We loved this hotel. Great staff, comfortable rooms and other facilities. We liked the location because it was within walking distance of a lot of sights, but the area was quiet. We only wish we could have stayed longer.
In Venice, the person who met us was friendly, efficient and helpful. Venice is the only place where the actual transportation was late, but because of the guide who met us, it worked out okay. The water taxi was also late picking us up from the hotel for our departure (Note: The hotel concierge attempted to contact the water taxi because it was late the day we checked out. All of the numbers for the water taxi that we were given in our itinerary were out of order).
In Florence and Rome the drivers to and from the train were helpful, on time and efficient.
We enjoyed all of the tours. The guides for the private tours were wonderful! I know it just worked out this way, but the Sunday morning tour of the aquaducts, catacombs, etc. was our highlight of Rome because there was very little traffic, and very few tourists at the stops. At our tour guide’s suggestion we started an hour early. The early wake up was totally worth it!
Everything was well organized and it was wonderful to just enjoy the experience. We also feel that the price was quite reasonable for what we wanted/got.
