Andy Warhol Superstar

EXHIBITION

The one 20th century artist whose influence can truly be seen in today’s pop culture is Andy Warhol. His trajectory as both artist and influencer is what the exhibit ANDY WARHOL SUPERSTAR! recreates in an experience for visitors to comprehend the impact and significance of his work.

In works that spanned mediums of painting, silkscreen, film, photography, books and sculpture Andy Warhol’s artistry transformed culture as we know it. Warhol’s genius in the art he created and the movement in which he helped create, known as pop art, emerged during the 1960’s cultural revolution. Celebrities, bohemian counterculture and art came together at Warhol’s studio, The Factory. His works were experimental exploring consumer and celebrity culture, sexuality and relationships between artist and art, making him both popular and controversial. He provided album art for the Velvet Underground and the Rolling Stones and his most famous commentary continues to be relevant today: “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.”

From his iconic paintings to the “Superstars” phenomenon, Warhol’s genius can truly only be captured by an immersive experience. The exhibited works along with multimedia installations attempt to recreate the environment and times that Andy Warhol both lived and helped create. “We like to understand how everything was born, who attended the Factory, and what was going on there. We want to breathe the atmosphere of enthusiasm and madness that the music of the Velvet Underground still manages to give us, to make us feel”, says Francesco Caprioli, director of the exhibition. The exhibit of over 40 works from private collections includes the “Superstars” portrait of Italy’s fashion icon Regina Schrecker.

The exhibit runs until July 1st, 2018 at the Casa dei Carraresi in Treviso. Contact Cultural Italy for your tickets and to add to your tour.
