Claudio Abbado, Conductor, dies at 80

NEWS
Claudio Abbado is one of those many artists Italy is also known for and proud of. This great conductor - perhaps the greatest in Italy after Toscanini - was born in Milan in 1933 from an educated middle class family. The father was a talented violinist who guided his two children to the strict, but at the same time free and playful, study of the seven notes.

Hi Alessia,
Our trip was wonderful! All of the guides and drivers were on time and professional and the hotels ranged from great to good…I’m glad we switched primarily from Hotel Romance to Hotel Lunetta in Rome. The family absolutely loved the trip.

Kandinsky at Palazzo Reale in Milan

ART EXHIBITION
Runs through May 4th 2014
The show will trace the artistic and spiritual evolution of this great visionary and revolutionary artist, from his colorful and figurative works of his art school period up to his most avant-garde pieces. Vasily Vasilievich Kandinsky was born in Moscow December 4, 1866, and four years later he moved with his family to Odessa, Germany. Here, besides attending a classical gymnasium (grammar school), he took drawing lessons as well. "I remember that drawing and a little bit later painting lifted me out of the reality", he wrote later.

Thank you so much! Our trip to Italy was beyond amazing. It was more than we could have asked for! Your question is incredibly difficult to answer because I'm not sure we could call out just "highlights" as it was all fabulous. Venice was such a surprise for us. We never dreamed it would be so relaxing and calming there. Just a beautiful city full of wonderful people and history. Florence's beauty was so overwhelming it almost moved us to tears. We experienced so much there! A full afternoon in the countryside and lots of time exploring the city and sights.

My husband I just got back from Italy yesterday. You planned a beautiful trip for us. Everything went according to plan. The drivers all showed up on time if not early. The hotels were very nice. The highlight of our trip was the Vespa tour we took. We rode Vespasian through the countryside and stopped in a field of sunflowers, tasted grapes, toured the winery and had a nice lunch. I would like to also compliment our driver, Gianni who drove us to Pisa and then also suggested some other interesting places to show us.

The trip to Italy was fantastic. We all had a great time! The planning was perfect, everyone showed up at the right time at the right place and it all worked like clockwork. The kids really enjoyed visiting the ruins of Pompeii!!

I want to thank you for a super vacation. Had it not been for your expertise, we probably would have driven around frustrated and not understood how special the cities we visited were. The vacation began  and ended flawlessly with transfers in Venice and Milan. The tours you suggested were excellent. I have never been interested in art history but am now! And what a special experience we had in Tuscany with Gabriella. We had pizza with 40 or 50 strangers the first night and had a blast. The second night a group from Germany put on a concert, what fun!

Thanks for reaching out.  Our trip was wonderful.  Each of the 5 of us had different highlights.  I thought Siena was a most spectacular place.  Thanks very much for organizing everything.  The logistics went perfectly.  The drivers and guides were outstanding.  We couldn't have done it without you.

Regards, Mitch

I'm copying Roberta in here because I would like to thank her in particular for the AMAZING, incredible honeymoon she put together for us. We had an absolutely unforgettable, once in a lifetime trip and we cannot express how grateful we are. We didn't have to worry about a thing once we were there and it was a dream come true. Highlights were certainly the accommodations at Villa Mangiacane and the cooking class there. That property is gorgeous and the service was IMPECCABLE. It was pricey, but the luxury we felt there was worth every penny.
